Hello and welcome!
Another school year is off to a great start! I am the EL teacher at Horace Mann School and the students call me Ms. Gina. My role is to support our multi-lingual learners as they work towards English Language Proficiency (ELP) in the four modalities of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. I work with students in Kindergarten through 5th grade.
I was born, raised, and still live here in St. Paul. I grew up in Highland Park! I attended the University of St. Thomas, earning a BA in Spanish. I began working as an Educational Assistant in 2001, and worked primarily with language academy teachers, supporting newcomers to the country with very limited English. I knew it was what I wanted to do! I went to graduate school at Hamline University where I earned both my K-12 ESL teaching degree and my master's degree. This year marks my 24th year working in SPPS with six years as an EA and 18 years as a teacher. This is my 5th year teaching at Horace Mann.
Outside of school, I love to play golf, go to Wild games, and spend time at the family cabin. I also spend a lot of time with my family. I have a twin sister, a brother, lots of cousins, and six nieces and nephews. My two Wheaten Terriers, Pickles and Welle, keep me busy and I love coming home to their wagging tails!
Please feel free to email or call me at school with any questions you may have. I look forward to getting to know you and your students!
Ms. Gina
