Tchr - Grade 1

"Childhood should be a journey, not a race."

Welcome to First Grade! My name is Mariana Tennyson. I look forward to working with every family that enters my classroom. The children of Horace Mann are delightful! I have been here since 1999 and find them to be smart, focused, kind, collaborative, and highly inquisitive.

During my many years in education, I have thoroughly enjoyed roles as a gifted and talented specialist, reading specialist, building content coach, as well as a Title 1 specialist for reading and math. Even though each role has its own flavor, they all have a common theme:  Honoring the whole child and the diverse cultures, gifts, and talents that each student brings to learning.

I live in Eagan with my husband, 2 dogs- Lindy Lou and Laney and 2 birds- Loco and Jose. I have a son, Robert, who is settled in Seattle working on a post doc position with Vanderbilt University. We celebrated his marriage in November. He and his wife are currently searching for professor positions in Human Biological Anthropology. My daughter is pursuing her career as a social media influencer and is currently working on writing a children’s book series on disabilities. Being 30 minutes away makes stopping over for dinner very easy! We enjoy seeing her, her partner Tyler, and their dog Dezi. Her 4 cats stay at home and don’t visit very often!

My husband and I enjoy traveling and have visited countries all over the world. We love to immersed ourselves in other cultures ~ What a wonderful window to our world! When we are not traveling, we keep busy swimming, biking, hiking, exploring, and reading. Nothing beats a hot summer day relaxing in the pool with a good book!

Here’s to the best year ever!
