Mrs. Amy Kortuem
Dear Families,
I am beginning my 17th year as a 4th grade teacher at Horace Mann. I have been working in the Saint Paul Public Schools for 36 years, teaching 1st, 3rd and 4th grade. In addition, I coordinated a reading program for 9 years. I received my BA in Education from Concordia University and my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from St. Cloud University.
My husband David and I are avid sports fans. We can both be found attending, as well working at professional and college athletics. We have an amazing, four-legged, furry son named Edison.
After 36 years working in education, there is no place that I would rather be than teaching at Horace Mann Elementary. Being a teacher is both an incredible responsibility and a tremendous delight. There is no better career than being able to introduce kids to the wonder of learning while fostering their creativity and independence.
I believe each child is a unique individual having his or her own learning style and needs. To accommodate those needs, students will make choices so they can begin taking ownership of their education, which will foster personal and academic success. When you walk into the classroom you will see an environment that celebrates these learning differences by providing: whole group instruction where we work together as a class to problem solve and share our ideas with each other; small groups based on needs, interests, classroom projects, etc.; individual work time that will allow me to work one-on-one to meet students’ individual needs.
Grateful to work with you,
Mrs. Amy Kortuem - 4th Grade Teacher
