Brian Groen

Hi!  This will be my fourth year working in Saint Paul Public Schools and I am new to Horace Mann this year.  I spent the past three years as a Special Education teacher at RiverEast Elementary and Secondary where I did a lot of reading intervention and science instruction.  Those are probably my favorite subjects of interest, but in general I just love learning and trying new things alongside the students in our fast-paced and evolving world.  I enjoy discovering the individual ways each student takes in information, challenging them appropriately, and watching them grow in their abilities and confidence.

At home I have four young kids with my amazing partner.  I love gardening, building with wood, and have grown to enjoy the challenge of fixing things and learning how they work in the process (which seems a constant need in a busy household with a lot of kids - thanks YouTube).  I'm looking forward to integrating into the Horace Mann family and adding to it all I have to offer in working towards a great school year.  

Hours:  

I am part-time, working 20 hours a week.  I am at school on Wednesdays from 9-12:30, and all-day Thursdays and Fridays.
