Horace Mann 10-Year-Old Maximus Tolzmann Qualifies for Junior Olympics
Congratulations to Horace Mann School 10-year-old Maximus Tolzmann, who this past weekend qualified for the U.S.A. Track and Field Junior Olympics in Shelbyville, Ind., in December.
Tolzmann, a fifth grader, won a 3K qualifying race near Lake Minnetonka. He not only beat every nine- and 10-year-old in his own category, he beat all the 11- and 12-year-olds too.
"When he was younger, we tried Maximus in all different sports," explained his dad, Scott. "He's extremely independent. He's not a team sports type of kid. He would always run and jump around and never stop. He's a mover and has a profound connection to running."
Maximus watches YouTube videos of his favorite runners and is "very tactical." Scott said Maximus runs 15-20 miles a week.
"This has literally changed his life," Scott said. "Maximus' self esteem, development and academics all went through the roof."
Once cross country season is over, Maximus will move onto indoor and outdoor track. He's scheduled to attend Highland Park Middle School next fall.
Well done, Maximus, and good luck in the Junior Olympics!
