School Patrol

School Patrols may be present from 7:10-7:25am and 1:50-2:05pm. Patrols will be present to help walkers safely cross those streets. Patrols are scheduled for the corners of Kenneth/Eleanor and Wilder/Eleanor.

Patrols will not be present if certain weather issues are present. Instances when this might occur:

Temperature OR wind chill colder than -15
Severe weather or lightning in the area

In these instances, families will be responsible for walkers.

We are no longer able to have walking lines due to a shortage of patrol members and walkers.

Where are Horace Mann School patrols located?

How are walking patrol lines created?

The lines are dependent upon patrol availability of 4th and 5th grade student volunteers (and sometimes 3rd graders). Walking lines are created when there are enough student patrols and walkers. Parents/guardians are encouraged to meet other families on the first days of school and form a buddy system list of names and numbers. This list could be shared with the patrol supervisor in the event of illness or changes in the patrol format.

What do patrols do at the end of the year?

In May, there is a celebration for all patrol members. The last few years it has been held at CHS Field during a Saint Paul Saints game.

At the end of the school year, ALL patrol equipment needs to be returned to school for the summer. There are two options for this:

After patrols finish their routes on the last day of school, the patrol member can return to school and drop off the flag and vest in the flag bin on the 2200 or red floor.
School patrol members may return their equipment to the Gym Office the day after school is out before 2pm.
