5th & 6th Grade Go to College

On January 11, 2008 the 5th and 6th graders went to the U of M to learn to learn more about maps. This field trip was related to our City Connections program. We had three shifts. They were the computer lab, the map library, and the Geo Wall. ... I will always remember all the neat things I learned and experienced.

The first thing our class went to was the computer lab. There was a google earth thing on the computers that was set up for our school. It showed us the lakes and rivers. It aslso showed us where the Ford plant was. We searched where our school was and we got to see it in the summer and up close in the fall. The computer lab was really cool.

The second thing our class went to was the map library. The maps fascinated me, especially the one from 1618.

It showed what people thought the world looked like back then. Another interesting part is that we saw several maps with the same spot blacked out. The instructor said that was a military spot and they didn't want people to know it was there. I also learned that Cleveland Avenue used to be called Mississippi Avenue. I learned a lot in the map library.

The third thing our class went to was the geo wall. We got to see google earth in 3-D. After putting on 3-D glasses, we got to see many places around the world. We went to DisneyWorld, the Eiffel Tower, the Leaning Tower of Piza, and many other interesting places. The geo wall was my favorite part of the field trip.

The field trip to the U of M was the funnest. I will always remember all the neat things I learned and experienced.
