We
are excited to announce the theme for this year’s Read-a-thon, 3,2,1,Read! The purpose of the
read-a-thon is to encourage students to develop good reading habits, and to
help raise money for the PTA’s projects and budgeted items to benefit the
entire HoraceMannSchool
community.
This
year we are moving the Read-a-thon from February to October. The Read-a-thon will replace our former fall
fundraiser. We will no longer sell items
from the Geckler Company. Although the
school received a percentage of the profits from Geckler, a Read-a-thon better
fits the mission and vision for the school.
We are hoping that all Mann families will help make the Read-a-thon an
even greater success than in years past because we must replace the Geckler
profits.
Each
successive year of the read-a-thon the students have read more minutes than in
the past year, AND raised more money.
Our goal for this year’s read-a-thon is for the students to read a
combined total of 500,000 minutes and to raise $13,200 for the PTA. This money will be used to support the
library, pay for field trips for students and support the many other programs
the PTA sponsors, such as Art Adventures and Bravo.
As
in the past, students will attend an opening ceremony in the gym to learn about
the Read-a-thon. This year’s opening
ceremony will be on Wednesday, September 30.
Students will bring home their packets of information on that day, and
the Read-a-thon begins on Thursday October 1. We thank you in advance for
supporting the Read-a-thon. Your efforts
have helped raise a tremendous amount of money for HoraceMannSchool, in addition to
getting children excited about reading!
If you are interested in helping with the Read-a-thon, please contact a
committee member.
