Principal Litwin explains the finer points of the 2009 Read-A-Thon!

Here is a quick overview of how the Read-a-thon works:

      1.    Set a Daily Reading Goal.  Each student sets a daily reading goal – how many minutes he or she will read each day between Oct. 1-31.  Time spent reading both at home and school counts.  Time parents or others read aloud to a student at home also counts.

2.    Track Home Reading.  Each student tracks how many minutes read each day at home using the enclosed Calendar Tally Sheet.  Teachers will track read-aloud and silent reading time at school.  They will give that total to students on Oct. 30 to add to the Calendar Tally Sheet. *** Students should turn in a weekly sheet showing how many minutes they read at home that week.  We will compile these minutes for our school and see how we are doing towards our school goal!***

3.    Secure Sponsors.  Each student is encouraged to secure sponsors – parents, grandparents, other relatives, friends, etc. – people who will pledge money to our school for each minute that student reads.  (A pledge might be 2 cents a minute or the sponsor may want to make a one-time pledge of a set amount.)  See enclosed Pledge Sheet.

4.    Collect Pledges.  The student collects the money and returns the Calendar Tally Sheet, Pledge Sheet and money to school during the week of November 2-6.  Volunteers will have a table set up inside the school collecting completed forms each morning during this week.
