How Much is $156,000?

The $156,000 cut represents a significant financial impact to the school’s budget. For instance:

  • The $156,000 is nearly enough to pay for 2 homeroom teachers.
  • The money is enough to pay for 6 teaching assistants.
  • $156,000 is 7.7% or 8.2% of our budget, depending on whether you include the enrollment adjustments we received in October and December 2008.
  • The $156,000 is nearly the same amount we pay for P.E. and Science/Computer classes combined.

Cuts will affect School services

96.4 % of the school budget pays for staffing. The remainder pays for instructional supplies and materials, technology repair, special programs, graphic services, and staff development. The total of these items is a little over $60,000. No matter how we slice it, we will have to cut staffing. Schools are required to have a principal, clerk, content coach, homeroom teachers, and prep specialists. That leaves Teaching Assistants (used to support student needs and to reduce class size), Reading Support (used to assist 40-60 students who need extra help, but not Special Education), Gifted and Talented, and Vocal Music.
